I received a bunch of Alcazar and other chips on consignment from someone in San Diego CA. There were about a dozen of the familiar Alcazar "Willie Green" crest and seal chips and two broken Large Crown hot-stamped $1.00 chips. Included was this 5¢ Large Crown terrible-condition hot-stamped chip which I thought would never be ID'd. No 5¢ Alcazars have been known ... ... .... till now! (The Alcazar was a card room club at 842 4th Ave, San Diego CA -- opened in the 1940's – closed now).
The Eureka! moment occurred when I realized that the bits of lettering that survived on the chip perfectly matches the "ALCAZAR" lettering on the $1.00 Alcazar chip! Hooray!
Shown below is all the evidence including a screen shot from the Richard Edward Staeffler Mem. Project, which shows just the 25¢ and $1.00 hot-stamped Alcazars, just as the Armin Pfaender book shows only those two. You can now add the 5¢ one to the list, maybe a one-of-a-kind chip! It is colored dull mauve or rose lilac.
