The chip material is pretty hard and table use won't make much difference in the surface texture.
Greg didn't show a picture of a glossy or shiny surfaced Chipco, but here is one on a Chipco sample.
I call the two types of linen surfaced Chipcos dimples and pimples. Here is an oblique photo of the dimpled chip. This is also a Chipco sample (notched).
Within the grid of squares are recessed indentations (dimples) in the surface. On the pimpled version, the area inside the grid squares is raised rather than indented... pimples.
You do need a magnifying glass to see the differences in the two types of textured (linen) surfaces. The fingernail test won't really tell you the difference, which is why the casinos don't care which they get.
