Many printers now come internet enabled with a radio built in. Set up a home networks if you don't alread have one and at least you don't need another cable for the printer. If you have a multi-story house, it's kind of nice to have a printer on each level top allow you to print from you laptop wherever you are. I don't know whether there are networked scanners yet, but I don't see any reason why there couldn't be.
There are also separate network controllers for $100 or so that let any peripheral connect wirelessly to your network. You could also consider connecting a printer via USB cable to your wireless network hub. Most of the modern hubs accommodate this and you have a printer accessible from any station on your local net.
Regarding fax, it seems just about obsolete, at least for home use. I haven't sent or received a fax in years. Most any company and any individual will send you scanned attachments to an email, and you can do the same when sending... scan the document and send it attached to an email. I've done this with financial companies, casinos, banks, and lawyers. All seem to have made the transition.
