Montana the land of the “Big Sky”
I have driven thru Montana a couple times but never spent much time there. It is beautiful country.
Gaming has been off and on since the first Montana settlers got there.
Pre-1937 it was all technically illegal (though rarely enforced).
1937-1950, gaming was okay as long as it was licensed locally.
1950-72, it was illegal.
1973, gaming was legalized state-wide (only poker, pan, and live keno)
Debby Whole a friend and my swing shift manager on the poker cruises spent 2 months driving Montana and hunting for chips. She haunted flea markets, bars, and where ever she could find chips and information on them. She came home with a lot of new Montana chips. She self published a book on them in 2002, with a lot of new info.
She owned Murphy’s card room in Elk Grove, Ca in 1993.
