...when it comes to selling chips to collectors. During this year's CC & GTCC convention, I tried to buy chips at the Luxor's main cage. I was told that it is "Illegal to sell chips to collectors". I politely informed that person that it was not illegal, however, it appears to be against Luxor company policy. I was told that I was wrong and that it is definitely illegal. At this point I asked why the other dozen casinos I had visited in the last two days, including several other MGM-Mirage casinos, had no problem selling me chips at their cashier cages. The almost unbelievable answer I got was that "they were wrong to do so".
Later, I went back to the cage and asked a different person for some chips. I got the same "Illegal" answer. Again, I informed him that it was not. This person was smart enough to quickly give me a different answer, in that it was against company policy, and company policy must be honored. I thanked this person and let him know that he lost my tip and asked him to tell whoever is in charge that I'll be doing my gambling elsewhere, at any other casino that is chip friendly. I don't gamble, or spend money, at casinos that aren't chip friendly, and I let them know.
The funny thing is that at all, or most, of the other casinos I visited this year I received great service from casino cashiers. I'd ask for chips and they would search for the best condition chips. Nearly everyone was very friendly. These folks were always thanked and tipped. Those casinos got my money!
