More on the Dunes Oasis NCV chip

I got what I thought was the second variety of the Dunes Oasis 5 chip that is marked No Cash Value. The one I found at the Convention is an unused, notched version of the one with lime and grey edge spots. However, when I looked closely, I see that one side does not have the No Cash Value marking, not even hidden in the black "island" at the bottom of the chip. The same side also has a different mold... apparently a long cane shiny-hats H&C. The other side has the usual short cane H&C.

Which raises some interesting questions. Was the design originally intended to be a value chip at the Dunes Oasis? The Oasis existed for only a few years in the early 1990's... was Paul-son making shiny hats mold chips then? Why was this chip notched? Is it one of two proposed designs?

The one with purple and grey edge spots has rounded corners, obviously used quite a bit somewhere. Is there a circulated version of the other design? I hadn't seen the notched chips before; did anyone else get one at the Convention?
