I have never a a problem with them searching my bags at the gate. One good hint is to tell the scanning guy that you have a BUNCH of poker chips in your bag. That way they expect them and it speeds up the process. Chips stacked together, like in coin tubes or a box, look a lot like explosives so the heads up really helps.
