"Kroch [Carl, the son] and four college chums also formed a very exclusive club called TULLA--The Urban Liquor Lovers of America. They would meet on a half-acre private island in the Thousand Islands, a chain of minuscule islands on the St. Lawrence Seaway near the mouth of Lake Ontario. ``Carl thought up TULLA,`` recalls William ``Joe`` Williams, who owned the island. Williams is president of Western and Southern Life Insurance Co., headquartered in Cincinnati. ``We would meet up there for several weeks every summer. Carl had shirts printed up. He was the vice-president. Oh, we had a great time. Our meetings never seemed to break up. We`d get into a red dog (card) game and could play that all night."
