Given to me by a seasoned collector many years ago, it is called the Rule of Three.
If you can do it, try to get 3 of any chip that you want to put into your collection. The first chip (the pick of the litter) goes to your collection. The second chip is used for a trade in the near term and the third chip is for a trade in the long term (at least 12 months out).
