I have been in the hobby for less than a year, myself.

Here are my suggestions:

1) Only collect items you like. No matter what they may be.
2) You can't collect everything..specialize in certain areas that interest you.
3) Don't overpay for a chip because "you had to have it". Be patient.
4) Lots of friendly people here..don't be afraid to ask for advice.
5) Have Fun!

oh yeah..and for the love of God, attend the upcoming convention..
