Casino Archive idea rears its ugly head again...

There must be something about December that makes my thoughts turn to creating a massive archive of all things related to casinos. I posted about this last year in December and Todd Barrett's recent comments about creating an archive of scanned items made me think about it again.

Based on Ross Poppel's suggestion last year, I am thinking using a wiki (the format used by Wikipedia) would work best and allow the most people to work on the project without creating a bottleneck somewhere in the process.

Here's how it would work.

We would create a page for a particular casino that will eventually include historical information, scans of chips, tokens, postcards, matchcovers, etc. Individuals interested in contributing would upload their scan(s) to a central location and then go about creating or editing the casino page. Some familiarity with WikiMedia software would be helpful, but it isn't difficult to learn. I have a test site set up that includes a WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) feature to make editing and creating pages even easier.

I am using my paid Photobucket account to host the images and have set up a group folder that would allow others to post images to it.

All of the pages will fall under the central project and there will be a page containing a list of all casinos included in the project, with links to each casino's page.

Is there any interest in this, or should I go back to work and repost again next December? vbg
