The Tubes...
I looked at booking them into the club I was doing concert promotion and production back in the early 1990's. As much as I like their music, that venture would have been a huge loss on my part. They wanted $5k for their show. The club only held 400 people SRO, and they wouldn't have packed the place @ $15/ticket, which would have only been break-even after paying for local sound, lights, catering, lodging and other sundry contract addendums. Even with my getting 25% of gross bar receipts, their nut was too large to crack for this market in a venue that size. It was also winter. Three snowflakes would fall and the door was 16 regulars who lived within walking distance. The promoter (me) paid the band (50% at least a month before the show and 50% at in-load) and all other expenses no matter how many tickets were sold. I wish I could have put them on our stage for a night. That would have been a fun concert, but I had to tell their road manager to Talk To Me Later!
