Re: Mirage no longer has a 24 hour coffee shop
Well I am sure that the economy has not helped! But I agree that the casinos that just HAD to expand in 2006 by buying their competitor for big, borrowed bucks are in serious trouble. There was a story just today in the paper about a lot of hotel companies that are in default for the same reason and how the banks are holding off on foreclosing because they don't want the properties. I have told my daughter several times to consider getting into casino management. She started bartending while in college and when she got out kept it up since it paid more than other jobs she could have gotten. She has progressed to helping BB Kings open new properties so she has the practical experience as well as college "smarts". The geniuses that designed most of the strip casinos did a pretty good job (just look at profits last few years) but some things were done very wrong. To get away from the average guy and his small bets has really hurt during this downturn. And things don't look like they are going to get better any time soon. Maybe they will start to listen to the customer and the experienced casino personnel.
