OK how does this sound.
In 2002 maybe 3 A person I am sure you respect (Dick Cheney) got in front of the Press and declared that they were going to incarcerate THE WORST OF THE WORST terrorists and enemy combatants at Gauantanamo Naval base Cuba. The administration spent the rest of their administration insisting that they could be detained without Charges, access a Lawyer or to the Courts. Over the years a significant number of these WORST OF THE WORST WERE RELEASED WITHOUT CHARGES. OOps sorry about interferring with your life it was just a misunderstanding.
Do you really think that the government is unable to make a conviction in a court of Law with these folks?? WORST OF THE WORST and all that. We have always claimed That Defendants have a right to defend themselves before their Accusers. Ever Heard of the Nurumberg Trials? Those were NOT military Tribunals. Just a few charged with War crimes were found innocent and released. A few were imprisoned for life at Spandau (I think) Prison. The rest were Hung by the neck till Dead. Goring was an exception, He committed Suicide same result.
There are Governments that can and to Detain without charges, Iran, China, and North Korea come to mind. HOWEVER... we trumpet to the world that we are a nation that follows the rule of law. To do anything else besides trying them would be hypocritical.
Paragraph 2;
Yes I do remember Chicago 1967, I live here remember.
The Police force of a Near dictator (Mayor Richard J. Daly His Son is a Near dictator now) Over reacted to a percieved slight of some sort and proceded to beat the Bejesus out of People that were Protesting a War that they felt was immoral. Kind of like those Teabaggers. Two TV reporters who were at the scene have testified that the protesters did NOT do what the Police Claimed. The Police still Claim that they were defending themselves. But then a skeptic like me would think to them selves... That is exactly what a Policeman would say if there were no close witnesses.
Paragraph 3;
The few times I read the Arizona Republic when I was there. I found it pretty much a normal source of information just like most all big city Newspapers.
Please open the curtains in your computer room and let some light in. When People get Older (like you and me) their night vision diminishes and we need more light to see clearly.
