Amtrack can afford to run at that price because they don't have to make a profit. In fact, they lose money on almost all of their routes. We, the taxpayers, make up the difference. That is why the Gov't running health care would put the private companies out of business. The gov't can run their plans at a loss and simply raise taxes or print money to make up the shortfall.
