I have seen it up close and personal. Someone at my table getting kicked out a Pechanga Casino tournament for putting chips in their pocket. Not sure if they were collectors or not.

I think it happens quite often. Countless times during chip race-offs in tournaments, there are odd amounts of chips being raced off..unless the chips happened to walk off on their own..;-)
