Re: Remembering a Greg story
In Response To: Remembering Greg ()

Anothr Greg story, not much to it but it captures a lot of what made Greg such great guy.

As I remember this, a wandering chipper stopped in Wellington KS and met up with Greg at the Wellington Sonic. The chipper recounted some of the visit and dropped this statement. "GReg said, you know what we call flies at Sonic? We call'em rasins!" May seem like a punch line to you but to me, it was a tool I used for the next few years. My job was transporting bulk loads of soybean oil. delivered to food processors and quite a few bakeries. now, of course, flies and food do not mix but greg showed that at the same time, setting you hair on fire over the situation was silly too. those boys aat the bakeryies had all sorts of high falutin' bother about eing clean and snitary and every once in a while I'd have to pipe up with, "look, I don't know nuthin about making bread, why don't you do that and I'll run this here truck, okay?" I'd lay tahe flies/rasins rule on them and watch their eyes bounce around in their head and point out that" you guys make raisin bread here don't you?... Well there you go!" besides it's early in the month so's you probably got some wiggle room left in you product parts per million on insect filth anyway right?" This story puts me in mind of all the good tuff Ilearned from my father, so i'll jusst bet Robert is all set to whip the wowrldahead for him. My delema at work seemed to be to get mulish people to see things my way and lend a hand and/or get outta the way. MY dad taught me to ask questions so tht yu would get the answer you wnated. I always wuld tel th new guys, "Here's something thta works everytime, you can have it" i be starting in at some new customer an dI'd spot a person who would be a key part of a smooth job, so i'd say, "HI, my name is Mark, what's yours?"" Oh I'm Ricky, glad to know you mark. "Well, I like to find out peoples names so ht if someone starts yelling aT me, "Hey what do you think you're doing?!!?? YOu cna't do THAT"! "I just tell them Ah, Ricky said it was okay!" That way you got him laughing and you are both in it together against"The man". Simple and elegant, you know, "greg Style".
