from http://www.dayfuneralhome.info/

Gregory Charles Susong, 54, owner and operator of the Sonic of Wellington, Kansas, died Friday, October 9, 2009, at his home after a year-long battle with esophageal cancer. Greg was born October 21, 1954, to Robert and Jan (Wise) Susong at Hampton, Virginia.

Susong graduated high school in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, where he also took his first employment with the Sonic Drive-In of Bartlesville as a cook at the age of 16 in 1970. He spent the remainder of his life operating and supervising multiple Sonics in Kansas and South Carolina, and later purchased the Sonic of Wellington which has been under his direction ever since. He was committed to giving his customers the best possible experience, from the clean "dining room" of the lot and stall to delivery of quality food with fast and pleasant service.

Greg pursued his hobbies and interests with the same determination and enthusiasm as he ran his Sonic. For several years he built and flew radio-controlled aircraft with the Tri-City Modelairs and was a member of Rotary Club. For 15 years Greg was an active member of the Casino Chip and Gaming Tokens Collectors Club, in which he served as an officer and the club webmaster for most of those years. The friendships he cultivated through the chip collecting club and Sonic are too numerous to count, testimony to his jovial good nature and honest character.

The other loves of Greg's life were his wife of 28 years, Carol (Wangler) Susong, daughter Lauren of Wichita and son Robert of Wellington. In addition to his wife and children, Greg's survivors include his parents Robert Charles and Beverly Jan (Wise) Susong and sister Kathy Ferguson, all of Fayetteville, Arkansas, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Lloyd and Kate Susong and Lawrence and Juanita Wise.

Visitation may be made at Day Funeral Home in Wellington on Monday, October 12, from 9am - 7pm. A vigil service and rosary will also be held on Monday at the funeral home at 7pm.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00am on Tuesday, October 13, at St. Anthony/St. Rose Catholic Church, 210 North B St., Wellington.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the Braman Cemetery in Braman, Oklahoma.

Memorials may be left to the American Cancer Society, 818 North Emporia, Suite 100, Wichita, Kansas 67214 or the building fund for the Museum of Gaming History, P.O. Box 33730, Las Vegas, Nevada 89133.
