I had to take the plunge and get rid of my Visioneer 7100 since it is not Vista compatible and no longer supported. I loved that machine since I only spent a net of $15 on it new and it had incredible pink/red color generation compared to the $300 units other were buying. It was at an office supply store on closeout at $45 with a $30 rebate in 2002. So I was headed to Best Buy to get a different brand today when I remembered a salvage store a mile from the house that had a lot of electronics. When I got there I found a few printer/scanner combos and then I saw IT! IT is a Visioneer 9520 - a current model with Vista support. It was hidden behind some printers. Of course it was a return and it didn't have the 2 CD disks for the drivers with it. So I had to beat on the manager to knock another $10 off the price. Now the bad news - I have spent ALL day trying to download the drivers and picture handling software and get them to talk to each other. I may not have it down perfect yet but here is the result. How much did I pay for this current model with a $199 list price? How about TWICE what I paid for the last one? I know - $30 is a lot of money for a good scanner but the results are pretty nice. Yeah I know that the ISLE chip came out a little intense but at least it isn't white.
