Terry, I visited PEI in 2001, and the trip over the Confederation Bridge was spectacular, almost worth the price. If I remember correctly, you don't pay to get on the bridge to PEI, but they make you pay to get off the island. Not a bad marketing strategy.

The island itself is beautiful. When you go to Summerside, check out the College of Piping. Very cool place.
