dont eat out unless its at a place that they know keeps Kosher.

I remember my grandparents coming to visit and we always had to keep a second set of dishes and pots as those used with non Kosher food cannot be used again for Kosher use unless special things take place (Too much to explain here).

To answer your question, keeping Kosher in mainstream America today is a nightmare and thats why so few people (Even those who are religous) keep a Kosher household.
