This is interesting, while going through Adamar of New Jersey, Inc. (Tropicana's former owner) incorporation papers which were originally filed on 09/28/1979 one of the names listed under Fictious Names section in additional to Tropicana and TropWorld is The Phoenix which leads me to believe that Ramada Inns which founded the Tropicana was considering using the Phoenix name before using Tropicana, the name is probably a nod to the location of their then headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona. Anyone (Archie?) know more about this revelation?
