Since John Drew was such an important figure in Nevada gambling history, I can't help but speculate about what specific club he was ordering these chips for. Most of these over the counter orders were for local (Chicago) places. I've heard Drew worked at the Owl Club in Calumet City, but those chips are well known.
In the Green Felt Jungle, Demaris says John Drew's best friend was Lester Kruse (or Kane). Kruse ran gambling clubs for the Capone mob back in Chicago, and so did Drew. And in 1948, Kruse was running "Ralph's Place", a big casino operation in the northern suburbs. The first appearance of Ralph's Place in the news was in 1948, which fits for a club that was buying their equipment in 1947-1948. So I suspect these chips are from Ralph's Place but can't prove it. Just throwin' it out there in case anyone can add anything.
