I have a similar 100, David, but not serialized. I've always considered it a shoe chip as it is uniface. I could be a key-fob chip, of course.

Note that both my 100 and your 1000 have edge chips, probably from prying them out of something. I believe mine came from James several years ago and as I recall, it is in his book.
