When we bought the photos, I hoped that the information from the seller was accurate, and that it would turn out to be Jack Entratter or Carl Cohen. When I discovered it wasn't either of them, I hoped that someone here would know who it was...since there's a lot of chippers here who know people in the industry. That didn't work out either.
But a lot of people here have posted and emailed some great suggestions and ideas...and I appreciate that. Others have spent a lot of time searching, and I appreciate that too, very much...you know who you are; Thank you!!!
There's a few feelers out there yet, maybe one will turn something up. If not, I'm hoping that during a future trip to Las Vegas we can go to UNLV special collections, or the museum in Lorenzi Park, and search 1960 Las Vegas Review-Journals. Maybe that will turn up something. If the mystery remains unsolved...oh well...we still have pictures of Danny Thomas, Bob Hope, Walter Winchell and Rocky Marciano...and a bunch of people that we don't know~ !!
I ran across some cool DI pictures during the search, and I thought you might like to see a couple of them
(Hmmmm....the guy on the left corner of the craps table looks a little like the dude that the "game show host" is standing behind!)
What a big casino needs to run for a single night is shown by Desert Inn employees and implements gathered in the gambling room before the opening.
(This is a LIFE Magazine photo...I love browsing the LIFE photos on google images!)
At least in the early years, the prize money for the DI Tournament of Champions was presented in silver dollars! Wouldn't it be fun to get a wheelbarrow full of those...!! (In this 1953 shot, the winner of the first Tournament of Champions was Al Besselink. He reminded me of one of the dudes in one of the dinner table pictures...sigh....)
