As someone who is not familiar with the discussion at hand, beyond what I am seeing here. I will add my two pence worth. As a collector of 19th century Mexican Silver "Dollars", I have coins from 14 different mints that existed, although not all at the same time, and most operating under precarious conditions. Many times over the last 40 years, "previously unknown" coins have turned up only to be disdained as forgeries. The only way to get to the bottom of a problem is to continue researching, and this can take years. I believe that removing information until iron clad proof apears is counterproductive.
For pieces that can't be attributed right now, why not open up a section just for those pieces, and add information as it appears in future editions. If you remove information, it will get lost, people will forget, and you will end up with nothing at all.
While you digest this, I am still going to take cover under my desk, until the smoke clears LOL.
