Back to the VS. I also found this interesting. I went back to look at that first attribution, and found it to be in Doug's Chip-Chat Bruce Landau auction on 14 June 2004.
This is the part I found interesting - despite the prices John Benedict claimed they previously changed hands for, and that this was potentially a big new discovery, and that some incredible prices were paid for other chips in that same auction, the hammer price was only $85. IMO that was a good indication collectors doubted the attribution straight away.
I also note that since then there have been a number of ebay sales, with an average price of just $50, and with two that had starting prices of $50 & $60 receiving no bids. The last two examples I saw earlier this year, while we were editing TCR, fetched $31 & $21 respectively.
