I'm not aware of the arrangement the club made with the artist, however I have worked with artists creating print editions. Usually in a situation like this, the club would pay for the full edition and the artist would get a number of prints to keep and sell themselves. I can't recall this print edition but as I recall it was pretty big. I would suggest an
edition limited to 30 prints. Lets say the artist gets five prints of the lot to keep. This keeps the print valuable due to the limited number produced. This helps with selling them too. Only 25 for the club to sell. I want to also say that this applies to fine art lithography printing, not poster prints. I'm not sure of the process we used.
I don't know how many the club sold but I'd guess it was less than 25. It would be a lot easier to sell 25 with the edition being 30. If the edition goes above 100 it is hard to use the word limited and it decreases the value significantly.
