I thought I'd have the whole weekend open, but unexpected work made that impossible, so I had to settle for a Monday afternoon arrival and Thursday afternoon departure.
The free South Point airport shuttle was waiting for me (and a few other folks) at the airport when I got there. That's a good thing. I've had many lousy experiences with airport shuttles in Las Vegas.
I had two reservations, one for Monday night and one for Tuesday and Wednesday nights. The hotel clerk took the time to consolidate the reservations so I wouldn't have to change rooms, and he even made sure the $50/day deposit from my Monday reservation would be released before it was applied to my Tues-Wed reservation. Very cool, since I was running on a short stack and didn't know if I'd need access to my limited debit card funds before I left town. The card never had to leave my pocket! WooHoo!
I checked in and headed to my room. When Doc Myers was getting off the elevator car that I was getting onto, I knew I was back in Las Vegas with friends who I consider to be family!
My room at the South Point was just what I expected from a newer Gaughan-owned and built property. Over-sized and very comfortable. Someone must have told them I needed walking physical therapy for the sprained ankle that I incurred a couple weeks ago because if my room was any farther from the elevators, I would have been staying at the Grand View - it was literally at the end of the hall. Even with the long walk, I can't complain. That was a nice room at a great price!
From check-in forward, the rest of the time was a typical convention. Seeing old friends, making and meeting new friends, partying and gambling with both, collecting casino stuff (I tried to buy a clean urinal strainer from a porter - she wouldn't sell me one), and I made a few bucks while there.
I hope I'll be able to make my visit next year a longer visit. I will stay at the South Point again, maybe before next year's convention. I think they want me back. I came home with some of their money, and I'm pretty sure they want me to bring it (and myself) back!
