A couple of things I did learn. The hobby is alive and well. There were over 40 different winners for a 72 lot auction. That means a lot of work for me but it is worth touching base with so many collectors. Again I am not complaining but I think the prices in general are somewhat lower on average and, YES, I did make money.
One complaint I do have. EBay and PayPal fees are way out of line. Now let's just say for the sake of argument that I sold $1006.64 worth of chips last night. It basicly cost me 15 cents a lot to list the item (this is a reel in the sucker price), but when the lots sold it cost almost $100 in fees, so eBay coming and going received just over $100. PayPal for what they do is the worst. Since they can't put the money in the bank and make interest on it they charge the customer for it. The fee's were just under 5% which is way out there. So, all in all, it cost me about $150 in fee's, lost a little bit on postage and supplies but that is ok.
I hope to see many of you at the Convention this year. It seems to shaping up to be a nice one. I had three people ask me what I collected. They just couldn't understand why I was selling so many nice $1 chips. That is simple, I don't collect $1 chips. I bought a collection with the chips in it because of an outstanding group of tokens which I do collect. I am sorry to report that there was not one $2.50 chip in the collection either. So make me happy and bring snappers and tokens to the Convention.
While I am thinking of it, PLEASE, PLEASE don't hold it against me if you don't receive your chips in the timely if you pay by snail mail. Like I said, I am going to the Convention and I am leaving this Saturday. If I have your payment by then your chips will be mailed. After that, they will be mailed when I get back.
