I Like 'em OLD... Why Four?

I have no idea other than I love chip history. This is a very old set... my guess is pre 1900 a scrimshaw 4 formed with 3 branches. The BLUE chip is a monarch or is it? The White & Red chips are worn more and obviously the lower denominations from the set. They are worn FLAT so they appear to be a TWO CIRCLES variation chip but the circle diameters are not Seymour listed. The Blue higher denomination chip clearly has a Racir/Monarch origin but the inner portion of the chip is exactly the same thickness as the outer portion. The first mention of a Racir/Monarch that I can find in Dale Seymour's book is HARRIS c1900 (see page 414) with the descrition: "These checks have a raised sunken line although the surface is smooth. The centers are made so they do not touch one another." Such is the case with the engraved TULIP circa 1900 with the engraving nicely preserved on the chip even though it has a few battle scars. I love 'em old & the older the better. grin USA
