The late great hobby of chip collecting
The economy, the lack of new and younger chip collectors are makeing the hobby slow down from, 5-8 years ago peak. Most collectors are middle age or old, a fantantic core group of collectors, but new blood is not coming to this hobby like it should. I don't have the answer to improving our membership, wish I did. Many old hobbies have seen slow downs, like stamp collecting. The exception is the high end chips. The $20.00 and under chips for the most part now being sold for face or less. LE are dead on arrival, common chips have no demand. E-bay prices have dropped big time, with no bids common. Now the best part of our club is the people, this will never change. The fun of collecting will never change. The conventions are just great, a good time for all. The gaming history is so interesting and addicting. Trading is fun, poker is fun, and Vegas is fun. The seminars are excellent. So many hard working people, and vol. at the convention, proves this is a great club. The Mag. is one of the best printed, and such a joy to read. I just hope we can increase our membership in the future, maybe as the economy improves, so will chip collecting interest, and our mmbership. I have 8 grandkids ( 12-22) none are interested in chip collecting. But, all said and done, I can't wait for the convention. I wish we had 2 conventions a year. One in Vegas, and a different city, like AC, FL., Ms.,Il., ect.
