There was an article in the latest issue of UNLV Magazine about a group of students from Politecnico di Torino that are virtually recreating the Sands resort circa 1960. I checked out the website and it's pretty neat. They have a lot of work to do still, but they are getting started and with some imagination, you can see what it could become. It looks like there hasn't been an update since December 2008. The article states that this semester's students are working on recreating the Stardust.
If you want to complain about the crudeness of it all, better of waiting until they get more work done. But, if you want to see it and imagine how the computer students of today may someday create a virtual Las Vegas of yesterday, then put on a Rat Pack CD, pour a martini, and head to the Sands of 1960 by going here: http://stardust.polito.it/rllv/
Enjoy!
