Will there be an actual auction this year?
In reference to the upcoming banquet auction of Carlos's painting:
Do you think that it would be a better idea to actually run this as an auction this year? I ask because last year we were immediately told that Mr. Maloof had bid $3500 and we were asked if anyone out there would/could top it. I thought that this was a big letdown for people who may have actually been interested in bidding and....who knows...if run like an auction,PERHAPS it might have generated more money and would have gotten the crowd into it.
I know that I was disappointed that I really never got a chance to "start the bidding at..." and it took the expectation and excitement out of the sale, since the item was obviously pre sold.
I am not complaining but simply offering a suggestion to make it more bidder/people oriented. I understand that the idea is to make as much money as possible for the club, but I think that it would make it more exciting to have actual bidding.
In my case,I went to the banquet simply to bid on the piece and was bummed out when the announcement about the "sale" came. Then,to make matters worse,I thought that I would be able to buy the first edition of the limited prints available, and it too was already gone and I think that if an auction was in place, that it would have been fair to others if they at least felt like they had a chance to bid.
What are your thoughts on this?
BY THE WAY: For those of you who may not know this,I did indeed purchase a painting done by Carlos the next day at the convention,so...I am not a cheapo guy,I think that I,like many people just want to feel like they have a chance to bid in an auction format if that is indeed what it is supposed to be.
