... I would think if that mutch material had to be removed to grind the reeded edge, the chip would have to be made wider to start with... But since both w/ and w/o reeded edge chips are the same size I just don't get it.

I thought all equipment from USPC went to Burt when the operation was dismantled. A few of us spoke with the person who was in charge of that operation (breakdown). I think he said it started in 46 or 47 when he returned to work after WWII.
