Not sure how the PNY could be misleading, since there wasn't really any text in the auction to hang a hat upon (unless I missed it). I know for sure that the folks over on chiptalk.net often trade that chip back and forth for around the same price it's at right now ($17, last I looked); and I know that CTers know the history of the PNYs.
The LaRue, though, I'd seriously question. As far as Campiglia/Wells' Price Guide 4th edition goes, it's listed at an R4, $40 for new condition. Not sure where the quoted "Rare, 1st Edition, R-8, Book Value $600" came from.
