I remember getting silver $ was a pain they used
In Response To: Nevada: The Silver State ()

to give them as change from a 20.00 bill in the coffee shop, hopeing you would use them at tables, or slots. They were so heavy, hadr to carry in pockets. I always tried to get rid of them. Side story. the hottest black jack table I ever had was 1962 Freemont hotel, started with 20 silver $ 3-4 hrs later had $500.00, I just couldn't loose . Never bet more than 3.00. Played for 47 years since, nothing but bad luck since. Worest beat and biggest bet of my life in early 1970's at the Silver Slipper 4 am Plane leaves 7 am, had been winning, made a all in $500.00 bet, one other player at 1st base, dealer showed a 6 the $5.00 better had two Q's asked dealer if he should double down, dealer said go for it, I said stay you have a winner, took a card, got 6 stayed and another 6 stayed. I also had 20 stayed pat, dealer took 2 cards for 21. I was upset broke, no ATM's or check cashing without prior credit line est. So I was hungry, broke had the biggest bet of my life messed up by a 5.00 player, now had to get to a small McCarren airport. Talked to pit boss he comp. a breakfast, called a cab and paid for ride. Told me he saw the bad beat, come back and see him when I was flush and he'd take care of me. Think they would do that today? No way.
