I've seen 844 two times when it was through Kansas over the past three years or so. The first time I caught it was SW of Hutchinson Kansas on the former Rock Island Golden State route. I was waiting for it at a crossing and was quite blown away after it buzzed by at track speed (see picture I took below.) I jumped in my truck and chased it all the way to Pratt Kansas and it was all I could do to keep up with it driving well over 70 MPH. The second time I saw it was about one year later when it stopped in Wichita and was on static display for a couple days. After it left I followed it via the UP steam power website and about two weeks later it was back through downtown Wichita on the return trip to Cheyenne.
If anyone of you chippers live close to where this train will be over the next month, I would strongly urge you to go check it out. Steve Lee and crew are very friendly and will answer all your questions.
Thanks for sharing Mark!
