Emeryville California

History: Avalon Club was a legal draw poker club from the 1950's. It was located on the first floor of the Ritz Hotel (see picture) in Emeryville California, next to Berkeley and near the Golden Gate Bridge. The Club was owned by Conger and Edith Panuzzi. This was the first club in Emeryville to allow female poker players. Before the 1950's Emeryville was known to have gangster run illegal casino clubs. Avalon Club was closed in 1967.
