Say the password used was "hotrod", then the device creates an encrypted version of that which would be something like "b1D6336719B"
If it's your own DSL router look on the bottom or the back for the ID code which will be something like "1234567890" Ten digits on a 2wire for example.
If it's your own wireless router you'll need to open a browser, with a computer that is hard wired into it, and put something like 192.168.0.1 in the url and it will come up with the settings for your local router. Different brands use their own IP address, (available on the web or in the manual) but almost all will start 192.168.#.# Then you can set the password and it will list the encrypted keys that it created.
