It was Christmas 2000 and my X and I had made plans to go to San Diego for a week between Christmas and New Years. The plans were made to spend the week on a sailboat that I had at Dana Marina near Sea World and our bags were packed. On Christmas night I get an email from my daughter... ED PROPOSED TO ME ON CHRISTMAS EVE AND WE HEADED TO THE AIRPORT AND ARE OFF TO VEGAS TO GET MARRIED! WE WOULD LOVE IT IF YOU WOULD BE THERE AND BE A PART OF OUR WEDDING. That's it... end of message! Now I had met ED one time before and I could not even remember his last name but I though he was either Czeck or Polish. At midnight we called every hotel in Vegas with me telling them this story about them getting married and I did not know the last name but I think he might be Polish and I think it started with an N??? or an M??? and that they are from Chelsea, Michigan.
At about 3AM and my 20th hotel call, a very nice girl at New York New York says, "We have an Ed from Chelsea, Michigan regestered but we were overbooked so they are at the Belagio tonight and they will be here in the morning. OMG YES! Now what? I decided to leave them a message to meet us...Where??? Big town and I need a small easy landmark! "Meet us in front of Slots-A-Fun at midnight Friday night"... and after work Friday, off to Vegas we went. We met the Love Birds at midnight as planned and the next day rented Tuxedos and a lomo and did the deed at the Little White Chapel. After, we had a very nice diner at the Plaza overlooking the Freemont Street Experience. It was very nice and now I am a grandpa to two boys from Mr. & Mrs. Ed Nieme.
