No, Mike, BM ran a flim-flam, and is a felon who should be prosecuted.
The bonuses are a contactual responsibility the corporation had to the bonus receiver. As distasteful as it is, the corporation (AIG) is
legally obliged to pay. I can understand the gut reflex to say "Too bad, don't pay 'em", but that won't hold up in court. The legal fees alone make it not worth trying, even as a publicity stunt.
My argument to you is EXACTLY about accountability. We are all so pre-occupied with these bonuses, that we are not even considering where the other 99.9% of the money is going. A nice little side benefit to those trying to push these stimulus packages thru, and the corporations, don't you think?
The masses need every thing spoon fed to them in a nice simple package. And whenever I did a little deeper, my inner Oliver Stone comes out. I see conspiracies to keep us from understanding the issues. This whole issue strongly underscores my point. I want the government in AIG's ear about the rest of the money, not getting everyone to think that our elected officials are doing their job because they embarassed some exec who got a bonus he was supposed to get.
