If confronted by Liddy, they would have agreed to any action in not being offered the bonuses if the consequences had been stressed... but Liddy decided otherwise knowing that he had room to wiggle... they would have agreed to something down the road. It's common; happens every day with every negotiation.

This was all made very clear (word for word) at the hearings.
