Good Morning Len,
It is with great regret that I must inform you I will no longer be associated with The Kansas City Star after this week. I survived three rounds of layoffs here since last fall, but not the big one this past week; 150 more of us are gone, effective March 27. It is unclear who, if anyone will succeed me on the gambling beat. It is quite likely there will be no gambling reporter, and greatly reduced coverage of the industry here.
After 30 years in this newsroom I'm not sure what's next for me. The newspaper industry doesn't appear to be a good long term or short term career bet these days.
I am hoping to do some freelance writing for awhile while my wife and I sort out our lives. Please don't hesitate to call if you, Anthony and the LV Advisor, or the Chip Collectors ever need a favor in Kansas City, or the advice, research talents or wordsmith services of an old-school newspaper reporter. If it is possible and permissible please substitute my personal e-mail address below for the daily LVA report which has become part of my required daily reading.
