You mentioned the positive effect that Borgata had on A/C gaming. Well in mho that is only partially true. Everyone projected that when Borgata opened that the market would grow. Instead what happened was that the pie only got cut into smaller slices.
I personally am afraid with the positioning of Revel, putting the Marina in the middle between Borgata and Revel might very well be the kiss of death for that property.
Consider with the Taj Resorts, Showboat connector and I'm sure Revel will pull business away from Resorts also something it can not afford.
Unfortunate as it is, Revel's opening could very well force the closing of others casinos close by.
Right now, Revel is completeing the exterior of its complex while it seeks further financing.
My personal feeling when you consider that everyone else that proposed building has all but abandoned their projects the only reason Revel continues is that they are too far along to abandon their position.
I wouldn't surprise me if they are in no rush to finish even if they did have financing. It's a lot cheaper to pay notes and taxes on something that is not completed than to pay thousands of workers salaries and benefits when the income isn't there.
As a matter of fact, it would not surprise me if somewhere down the road like the Donald didn't come along and buy the project for 30 cents on the dollar. You have to remember that the Taj Mahal also didn't starts as a Trump project not did the Marina.
Reading yesterdays press which reported the worst month ever for A/C with a drop in revenue of 19.2% overall and Caesar's with almost a 30% drop the picture isn't bright.
When you factor in all the new venues opening up around A/C, the state of the economy and all the other factors I doubt that there will be anything positive for a time to come,
There is no question that A/C has a lot more to offer than the Racino's close by and projects like the walk, the shops and the quarter all help. Hopefully more of these projects will continue to draw people to A/C but what is needed is people that come for few days not just the day tripper
