- Every Monday, the major local supermarkets such as Winn-Dixie, Albertsons and Publix mail out their flyers advertising what will be on sale starting that Wed. and Thurs. Shoppers compare right then and there and plan their shopping for that week.
- Regarding the number of Walmart outlets; not all of them sell any one product at the same level as all the others around the country, but local growers, packers and bakeries that I know very well, who do sell to most of the major supermarkets in my community, do so at the same level. Today (and for the past 5-day period) certain produce from right here in Palm Beach County has been selling at the same level in all the major supermarkets except Walmart, where it was 1/2 the price of those others. Walmart knows exactly who eats what in the community and what food/produce are prepared with what meats/whatever in the community... That's where "having their act together" pans out. They know exactly what they're doing and many of the other merchants have refused to study/learn.
I saw eggplants at Publix today that should have been ditched a week ago; still in the bin at twice the cost Walmart had their hard, firm eggplants. I called the produce manager over to point it out to him and his response was... "they'll sell." I've never, ever seen one piece of touched fruit at Walmart or any eggs, milk or any other dairy on the shelf past it's experation date... except a bread rack (not name-brand). I can't say that for other supermarkets.
I just happen to be a person who likes quality food at an affordable price, and I'm happy that there's a choice as to where to shop in my town and surrounding environs.
