My lady friend works at a large national moving and storage outfit. The phone doesn't ring like it used to and they were going to lay an office person off. It was a four person office and My friend was pretty anxious as to the final decision. They decided on someone else last week so Smoochie was safe. Now here comes the heads-up part of the post.
Tuesday at the moving outfit they had a surprise drug screen facility-wide. My girlfriend was the only survivor in the office! Luckily they weren't screening for $40 steaks and Grey Goose martinis or her birthday dinner would have been her downfall. Just for your consideration, you might look for this tactic to be an adjunct to company layoffs.
I doubt anyone here is likely to fail workplace drug tests but if you know anyone who is vulnerable to them, you might want to suggest that they ought to clean up for awhile. Had a round of layoffs at work? Perhaps there are still too many worker paychecks going out every week so how do we face the unplesantness of eliminating some more jobs? Car bombs? Random sniper fire? How about drug testing, have you heard the chatter in the lunch room on Mondays?
Be carefull out there.
