! I dug around a little more, and found 1952 & 1955...nothing new, but they narrow the timing down a little more.
In 1939 Pete Castellani had a pool hall on E Street, and the phone number was 38 (could have been earlier than 1939, but that's our earliest phone book).
From 1945-1952 The pool hall's phone number was 43.
(Note: The dates probably extend before 1945 and after 1952, but that's what our phone books cover). No listings for Hawthorne Club.
I'm guessing that somewhere between 1952 and 1955 the pool hall was sold, the Castellanis moved away, and the name was changed to the Hawthorne Club, phone number 43. THIS IS SPECULATION ON MY PART...because in the 1955 phone book there were no listings for Castellani, Sr. or Jr...but there is a listing for the Hawthorne Club at 501 E Street. In 1955 the phone number was WI5-2144.
It's odd because Eric's matchbook says Hawthorne Bar, and I can't find any listings with that name in the phone books. If it weren't for that, I'd think your matchbook was from 1952-1955, since that was the first listing for the Hawthorne Club...but...?? So....I think MCotD #11 is before 1945, and your MB is from 1945 or later...??
