I thought I might be able to help you date it, from the phone number....but, hmmmmm...???

In 1939, no listing for Hawthorne Bar, so I looked for the phone number...not much of a problem! Pete Castellani's Pool Hall on E Street

By 1945 the phone #38 was in use at Pete's house on D Street. The Pool Hall, on E Street, had the phone number of 43. So maybe that means your cover is pre-1945? There was no listing for the Hawthorne Bar or Club.
Those listings stayed the same through 1951...then we have a phone book gap .

In 1956 there were no listings for Castellanis, but the Hawthorne Club shows up at 501 E Street...and all of the 2-digit phone numbers are gone

I love these old phone books...always something "new" to find!
