Not a lot to say about this chip, other than I've always liked the GN. I remember the first time I went downtown was actually not until I had been to Vegas several times. Downtown certainly doesn't have the glitz of the larger strip properties, but I remember thinking there was something slightly sleazy and yet endearingly retro about it.
On that particular trip someone from my Friday night poker crew had given me a few lucky dollars, with the instruction that I "find the largest and tackiest slot machine possible to play them in". Interestingly it wasn't an easy task to accomplish. After a couple of days I hadn't yet found anything that fit the bill, but faithfully explored the entrance to each casino I visited for an appropriately boisterous behemoth. My brother and I eventually decided to venture downtown, where I wanted to hit the Golden Nugget (to see their collection of--by some small coincidence to the casino name--large golden nuggets ). In any case, after I had satisfied myself with the bits of bullion, I headed out to see the rest of the casinos on Fremont street. As I left, there it stood-- a giant slot machine where you could pull the handle (another requirement I had been given).
After having just experienced all of the riches untold, I was feeling particularly lucky, and the large brass panels on the slot machine seemed to beckon, heartily confirming my sense of good fortune. Having so suddenly succeeded in my search, I saddled straight up to this scion of serendipity and prudently proffered my propitious pittance.
Somewhat shockingly, I did not go home a rich man.
